Be sure to check out the website of your zoo to see if they have a zoo light event.

Zoos really go all out for their zoo light events.  They are quite amazing to see.  Usually there is a cost for seeing the zoo lights, but it is typically less than $10… and Well Worth it.

Newborn Tiger Cub Found Dead (Didn’t Know Mom Was Pregnant)

Wednesday, September 8th, 2010

Tiger

A newborn Tiger cub was found dead at the Calgary Zoo.  Whats even more is that the zoo had no idea the mother tiger was pregnant until the deceased cub was discovered.  And to add onto the mess the dead cub has a twin that is currently in a battle for its life.

The twin cub that is living is being cared for by the zoos Animal Health Centre.

Katja, the 10 year old mother, was born at the Calgary Zoo in 2000.

This comes a a poor time for the Calgary Zoo who as of late have been under fire for other animal deaths in their zoo reportedly caused because of human error.

In the past many bats were killed because of a sharp wire in their cage, a monkey was killed by a mouse trap and small animal was stepped on and killed.

Critics of the zoo say this incident highlights the problems the zoo has concerning human cause death with their animals.

Zoocheck’s Julie Woodyer said, “Whether people are not paying attention with security, or animal health issues, or in this case, their own breeding program — it’s incompetent…”.

Problems with the zoo aside, Siberian Tigers are considered endangered, so all hope goes out for the surviving tiger cub still in the aid of the health centre.

And if the cub survives it is sure to give more hope to the worlds tiger population and the Calgary Zoo.

New Baby Black Rhino Born at Cleveland Metropark Zoo

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010

Baby Black RhinoGreat news for Cleveland Metropark Zoo, Cleveland Residents and America.

A new female Black Rhino Calf was born in mid August.  This is extremely exciting news because this is only the 3rd Black Rhino to be born in the US this year.

Black Rhinos are extremely endangered and this is very exciting to help promote awareness and add another addition to the Black Rhino population.

Just how big is a baby rhino?

This currently unnamed calf was estimated at over 100 pounds at birth!

This little lady has 2 siblings at the zoo named Kibibbi and Zuri.  The naming process for new zoo animals can always be a fun process.  We will see what the name ends up being.

Good luck to this Cleveland Zoo and all the best to this brand new baby rhino!

This is the newest attraction at this amazing zoo.

Meerkats have been popularized by the fantastic Animal Planet show called Meerkat Manner.

This adorable little creatures live together in communities, or more like families.

Each family helps take care of each other and when another family of Meerkats comes into the territory it could mean a family feud.

Meerkats are so full of energy and personality you could sit and watch them for hours playing with each other and interacting.

The Woodland Park Zoo has some other incredible exhibits like the snow leopards.  There is a mother leopard and 3 young yearlings and if you catch them on the right day the play and fight with each other.

The lions and the bears are also amazing attractions at this zoo.   Be sure to head to the woodland park zoo to see the meerkats!
